Tools of the CraftThis is a featured page

As with any craft or art, there are many tools of the artisan. Depending upon the tradition that you follow, the coven you belong to, or your own solitary beliefs, the tools you use, craft or purchase are personal and individual. There seems to be one hard and fast rule to purchasing tools and items that you are going to use in your magickal workings, NEVER try to talk someone into selling you something for less than it is advertised for. In my personal opinion, this shows a lack of respect for not only the tool itself – but for the artisan who created it.

As with most things magickal – it is best that the item come from yourself and your own work. However, this is not always a practical idea, so the purchase of items that you need is very acceptable in today’s world of magick. When you do purchase an item that you will use in your work, it is important that you spend time and invest energy into it. No matter who has made the item, this gives it part of you, and imparts your own energy into the tool. A tool that you are comfortable with, should also be a tool that is comfortable being with you! I have formed a bond with almost every tool in my repertoire. I sleep with my tarot cards next to my head at night, I have magickal jewelry that I "recharge" frequently by wearing at various times when I am at ease with life and the things around me, or when I am in an extremely joyous and happy mood. I try to impart as much of my "happy" or calm me into them, as I try to avoid having them exposed to me when I am under any extremely stressful times.

Taking the time to clean your tools is very important also. Just from use and exposure to the "vibrations" in and about the home, they can get a cast of energy about them, which may not be favorable at all times. Although we would love life to constantly be happy, into many lives some tension and stress will fall, and whatever we are experiencing, our tools will experience just from exposure to us. Do not think of them as "tools" or even as "things", think of them as extensions of yourself and your magickal ability. Just as you take a daily shower of bath, your tools need to be cleaned and ritually blessed every now and again too.

The following implements and areas (shrines, sacred space, etc.) are used in the various rituals of a variety of religion and spiritual traditions. It is imperative to remind yourself constantly and always remember: the most essential instrument in ANY ritual or magickal working is yourself. Always feel comfortable with the tools you wish to use, and ignore any that do not feel comfortable for you. The tools presented here are not just limited to Wiccan or Pagan tools.
